He found his introduction to grappling at the age of 12 when he took up wrestling in school and ended up competing at a Division III level in college. After a year of this, Rodriguez decided to transition to Jiu-Jitsu competition instead and almost immediately made a huge impact. After just a few months of BJJ training, Nicky Rodriguez managed to reach the podium of ADCC trials. Since then, he has established himself as a top competitor and has stood on the podium of the ADCC world championships representing first the Danaher Death Squad, and then B-Team Jiu-Jitsu.
