Subversiv 3 will be bringing a different spin on the team grappling format to the United States on August 28th. The event will feature sixteen different teams facing off in a single-elimination bracket with each team fielding three representatives, an under 180lbs man, an over 180lbs man and an openweight woman. All matches will be contested in the gi and under the same rules and judging criteria as Fight 2 Win, which does not award points and prioritizes submission over position in the event of a decision being required. The tournament will also award some great prizes with the 1st place team earning $4,500, 2nd earning $3,000 and 3rd earning $1,500.

The event features a nice mix of elite competitors and lesser-known grapplers who look primed to provide an upset or two. There are a few IBJJF world champions In the women’s openweight division, Nathalie Ribeiro is representing Team Checkmat and Jena Bishop is representing Alliance Gold as two of the lightest competitors while Kendall Reusing is showing up for Gracie Barra on the opposite end of the scale. The lightest men’s division features two big names who have only recently started competing at black belt as Levi Jones-Leary and Samuel Nagai will wave the Unity and Checkmat flags respectively.

The remaining division will see a number of high-profile grapplers like Aaron “Tex” Johnson for Fightsports and Felipe Trovo for Gracie Barra. Gabriel Almeida rounds out a fantastic Checkmat team after his stunning performance at Fight 2 Win 149, while Devhonte Johnson teams up with Jones-Leary for Unity. Another solid team in Alliance Gold has Fellipe Andrew in the biggest weight division, no doubt looking for a match with Almeida ahead of the pair’s entrance to Third Coast Grappling Kumite 6.
