Submission Underground has just announced the return of Tag-Team Jiu-Jitsu matches just in time for their 21st event on March 28th. Neither Chael Sonnen nor the rest of the team behind SUG have announced the main event for the card, or any of the supporting matches, although they’ve been able to reveal one of the teams involved in their Tag-Team matchup. Their opponents have not yet been confirmed as SUG appears to be holding an open casting call for the challengers to face the pair of UFC and SUG veterans.
Both teammates are colored belts representing American Top Team/Fabiano Scherner, including of UFC Bantamweight and Featherweight veteran Ricky Simon, who holds a 6-2 promotional record and has finished two of his opponents by submission. He will be joined by John Simon, who returns to the promotion after defeating Charlie Gilpin in EBI overtime back at SUG 20, and is of no relation to his teammate. John also has an MMA career, compiling a 2-1 record on the regional circuit over the last three years.
John Simon has also competed for Submission Underground before at SUG 12, although he lost that match against Cody Kenaga. Ricky Simon meanwhile has not had a match for the promotion until now, but he joins a number of other UFC veterans as part of a tradition for SUG of featuring high-profile MMA figures.
