Submission Hunter Pro 84 took place on July 22nd, 2023 and the promotion put together a fantastic 8-man absolute tournament that delivered fantastic results on the night. We previewed the tournament beforehand and broke down the chances that each competitor had to win, and our predictions were very accurate in the end. Before fans got to see the conclusion of the tournament, UFC veteran Lauren Murphy put her 135lbs title on the line against Lorena Balli and secured an arm-triangle choke pretty quickly to retain her belt. After that and several exciting superfights, it was time to see who would emerge victorious from the stacked bracket.
Dan Manasoiu was the early favorite and he stormed through his first two matches, submitting both Francisco Lo and Austin Oranday with smother chokes from mount. The other side of the bracket was a little closer, but it was Declan Moody who managed to book a place in the final by submitting Pedro Alex and defeating Felipe Silva by decision. Moody put in a great performance in his first two matches but he couldn’t do anything to stop Manasoiu on his march to the top, as he was also submitted by a smother choke in the final. With three smother choke submissions in three matches, Manasoiu proved that he belongs at the very top of the sport at Submission Hunter Pro 84.
