Shoyoroll have now decided to collaborate with the IBJJF for the production of their latest gi, an ultra-light competition edition. This a pretty huge business decision, as the two organizations are among the biggest in the sport in their respective fields. Shoyoroll have long been known for their exclusive and limited edition gis that are significantly more expensive than their competitors, and the IBJJF is of course the biggest tournament organizer in the sport. It also couldn’t have come at a better time either, as they’ve produced the gi just in time to launch at Jiu-Jitsu Con, which takes place from August 31st to September 2nd, 2023.
In fact, there will be a Shoyoroll x IBJJF booth at Jiu-Jitsu Con 2023 and the two organizations have arranged an exclusive in-person sale of the gi starting on September 1st at 11am PST. Anyone purchasing at that point will have the ability to choose from either blue or white but when the gi is available for sale online at 3pm PST, only the white option will be available. While this is only available for a limited time, there will actually be over 10,000 BJJ competitors and coaches in attendance at the event.
The gi itself is called the WAZAir Ultra-Lightweight edition and Shoyoroll have confirmed that it will be the lightest they have ever made. It’s clear that they’ve geared this heavily towards competitors and not just because it’s so light, but also because they’ve made it perfectly in line with the new IBJJF gi requirements coming into play in 2024. It’s always a frustrating time when the IBJJF change uniform requirements as some competitors end up being disqualified as a result, but getting direct input from the IBJJF is a great way for Shoyoroll to guarantee that this won’t happen to anyone wearing the gi.
Shoyoroll announced the news that they were collaborating with the IBJJF for their latest competition gi in a recent post to their official Instagram account:
