Quintet has not staged an event in over two years but the promotion has just announced that they will return for once again on September 10th, 2023. The promotion is the brainchild of MMA and grappling legend Kazushi Sakuraba, who invented the most popular team grappling ruleset on the planet back in 2018. They put together 4 events in that first year, 3 main-line events featuring some of the best grapplers on the planet and a Fight Night that focused almost exclusively on Japanese competitors. Then between 2019 and 2021, those main-line events took a backseat and Quintet decided to put more effort into their Fight Night events instead.
A total of 6 more Fight Night events took place across that time, along with a special edition called Quintet Ultra that had MMA fighters as competitors instead of grappling specialists. Throughout that time, Sakuraba and the rest of the team behind Quintet continually pushed the envelope and found new elements to introduce to their events. They were one of the first few promotions to stage an all-female event with Quintet Fight Night 6, and he introduced the unique ‘Ironman’ ruleset that saw grapplers compete to land the most submissions against one another.
Quintet was well-respected as an innovative promotion with one of the most exciting rulesets in the sport, but then they disappeared without a trace in 2021. Now after over two years of absence from holding events, Quintet has worked out a partnership with K-1 that has enabled it to return. The two promotions are working together to hold an event called ReBOOT on September 10th, 2023 that will feature Quintet 4, and grappling fans will get to see one of the best promotions on the planet back in action.
Quintet announced the news that they will return in 2023 after two years away from staging events in a recent post to their official Instagram account:
