Aung La Nsang has been one of the best things to come out of ONE FC for some time now and the homegrown double champion has now lost one of his titles by submission in the first round. ONE Championship: Inside The Matrix saw La Nsang attempt to defend his Middleweight title for the fourth time against Reinier de Ridder, an undefeated Dutch prospect who came into the fight with an 12-0 record and three straight wins under the ONE FC banner. Despite his opponent’s impressive record, La Nsang was still expected to emerge victorious and retain the first of his titles.
Normally, Aung La Nsang is not the one on the receiving end of the submission or knockout as the Burmese Python has finished 24 out of his 26 professional wins. He originally put together four wins at ONE FC to earn his first title shot, one he lost against Middleweight Champion Vitaly Bigdash. Starting when he turned the tables in an immediate rematch and won his first title for the promotion, he went on a phenomenal seven-fight winning streak that saw him add the Light-Heavyweight title to his collection too.
This great run had a number of fans wondering where La Nsang would fit into the UFC Middleweight or Light-Heavyweight title picture, should he ever make the jump to the sport’s biggest promotion. Unfortunately for him, he’s now lost the title he held in his natural weight class after de Ridder latched on to a Rear-Naked Choke in the first round. La Nsang still has his Light-Heavyweight title at ONE FC and will likely look to defend that before attempting to regain the Middleweight title he just lost.
