It seems like 2021 will be a big year for the Diaz brothers as Nate has just released a rather cryptic message on his official Instagram account that hints at an impending return to the UFC. The video is essentially a short highlight reel of some of Diaz’s best performances and most memorable moments, followed by an end title-card that simply says “2021” accompanied by the cryptic message: “Round 4.” This revelation comes only a matter of weeks after a similar public announcement from his older brother Nick, who recently completed a test weight-cut and training camp to prepare for a comeback in 2021.
The younger Diaz brother has been significantly more active than Nick, who has not competed since his fight with Anderson Silva in 2015 that ended in a No Contest after Silva failed a drug test. Nate on the other hand has fought five times since then and gone 3-2 over that stretch, including his legendary ten-round rivalry with Conor McGregor and his fight with Jorge Masvidal for the BMF title. Fans have been eager to see the conclusion of his battle with McGregor but seeing as the Irishman has publicly revealed an upcoming second foray into Boxing to fight Manny Pacquiao, this seems unlikely.
On the other hand, Dana White has previously said that he is working on the rematch of the BMF title fight and wants to book Jorge Masvidal v Nate Diaz 2 for the UFC star’s return in January. This would also make sense in the context of Diaz’s cryptic “Round 4” message as the pair’s first fight was stopped by the doctors at the end of the third round despite his clear willingness to continue.
