Nate Diaz and Jake Paul have just made an agreement to extend their upcoming boxing match on August 5th, 2023 to 10 rounds instead of the previously agreed limit of 8. The two men shocked the worlds of both boxing and MMA earlier this year when they announced that they had agreed on a fight against one another, and so far everything is going as planned. It’s not uncommon to see things go wrong in the final days leading into these kinds of celebrity matches, but so far it’s been plain sailing. This kind of rule-change so late in the game is a good indication that both men have their minds set on making it into the ring and putting on a show for the fans on the night.
Jake Paul spoke about extending his boxing match with Nate Diaz to 10 rounds and echoed that sentiment:
“10 rounds. If the fight goes to the later rounds, it’s obviously a big advantage for Nate. I know that, he knows that, the oddsmakers know that. But I don’t give a f*ck. I’m all in.”
There was a little concern about whether the fight would still go ahead in April, when footage emerged of Diaz choking someone unconscious during an altercation in the street. Although that did result in a little trouble with the law, Diaz was quick to address the issue and ensure that it didn’t get in the way of the upcoming fight. He handed himself into police within just a few days and was released on bond shortly after. The fact that the fight appears to be going ahead as planned is good news for fans of the two men, as they’ve been circling each other for quite some time now. Diaz got involved in a brawl with members of Paul’s entourage during his boxing match with Anderson Silva back at the end of last year, and Paul immediately called out Diaz as soon as he signed a contract with PFL.
