Polaris is getting ready to stage their 23rd event and they’re already planning for the future, as the promotion has just announced that Polaris 24 will feature a men’s under 70kg grand prix tournament as the main attraction. The date and location of the event has not been confirmed as yet, most likely because Polaris is still focusing on getting their next event finished first. Polaris 23 is scheduled to take place on March 11th, 2023 so it makes sense that most of the attention will be set on that event until that date.
Polaris have gone through several changes throughout their life staging professional grappling events, going from initially setting up fight cards full of superfights to eventually branching out into team grappling events with the introduction of Polaris Squads. Now it seems as though they have decided to focus on tournaments instead, starting back at Polaris 22 with their middleweight grand prix that saw them crown Roberto Jimenez as the division’s new champion. Now the promotion has put together a fantastic lineup for Polaris 23, where a tournament will be contested in the women’s under 66kg division.
The promotion has already confirmed seven of the eight women competing at Polaris 23, and added an incredible main event match between Chris Weidman and Owen Livesey. The final spot in that tournament is up for grabs for the winner of a Contenders tournament on February 4th, and they will also be conducting a men’s under 70kg tournament on the same day in advance of Polaris 24. The person who wins that tournament will then be the first person invited to compete in the men’s under 70kg grand prix, and Polaris will announce the other seven competitors in the near-future.
The news that Polaris 24 was going to feature a men’s under 70kg grand prix tournament was announced in a post to the promotion’s official Instagram account:
