Polaris has just made the announcement that the main attraction of their next event will be a women’s grand prix in the under 66kg division. The tournament will take place on March 11th at Polaris 23, alongside an as yet unannounced superfight and a preliminary card full of matches. The exact location of the event has also yet to be confirmed, but the promotion did reveal that they weren’t venturing outside of the UK like Polaris 21 and this time they would be visiting the north of the country.

The under 66kg women’s grand prix will take place under the same rules as the middleweight grand prix that the promotion put together for Polaris 22, including the grand prize of $20,000 that is up for grabs. The tournament will feature eight of the division’s top competitors who will meet in a single-elimination bracket, with the eventual winner having to defeat three other women on the night. The promotion has also confirmed that there will be a minimum of one contenders event that will see a group of prospects competing for a place in the tournament.

These contenders events are routinely some of the most exciting tournaments in the UK’s local scene and they always serve as a great reminder of the sheer amount of talent that often goes unnoticed. It also gives lesser-known athletes a huge opportunity to compete against some of the best grapplers around in front of a huge crowd, and streamed live on UFC FightPass. Although there’s been no official announcement as to whether there will be a title on the line too, there is no current Polaris champion in the women’s under 66kg division and this grand prix would serve as the perfect opportunity to crown one.

The news that Polaris 23 was going to feature an under 66kg women’s grand prix was announced in a post to the promotion’s official Instagram account:
