Mateusz Szczecinski has just signed an exclusive European contract with Polaris, meaning that they will be the only promotion he will compete for in the continent. He isn’t the first elite competitor to sign an exclusive contract with the promotion either, as they recently agreed a contract for all of their women’s lightweight champion Helena Crevar’s appearances in the UK as well. It makes sense for them to guarantee Szczecinski’s services for the future too, as he is currently the reigning Polaris welterweight champion. He has the held the title for a little over a year now, as he submitted Jed Hue at Polaris 24 to win the vacant belt.
Szczecinski also made his first title-defense at Polaris 28, where he defeated Levi Jones-Leary by split decision after a very tough match. This exciting match made him the very first welterweight champion in the promotion’s history to successfully defend the title too. Mansher Khera was the inaugural Polaris welterweight champion and he lost the belt in his first defense against Edwin Najmi, who never actually defended the title before vacating it. Not only is Szczecinski the most successful welterweight champion in Polaris history, but his trademark ankle-lock game makes him one of the most feared competitors in Europe.
He’s submitted plenty of elite competitors with his lethal leg attacks and they earned him his very first ADCC invite back at ADCC 2022. He made an immediate impact at the world’s most prestigious no gi grappling tournament, as he submitted top contender William Tackett with a leglock in the opening round. Although he couldn’t progress to the second day of ADCC 2022, he had already made his mark on the international stage and secured himself another invite to ADCC 2024. He’s only gotten better since his first attempt and the likelihood is that he makes another big impression at ADCC 2024, along with continuing his reign as the Polaris welterweight champion.
Polaris announced the news that they had signed Mateusz Szczecinski to an exclusive European contract in a recent post to their official Instagram account:
