Margot Ciccarelli has just become the latest elite competitor to decide to join Art of Jiu-Jitsu in order to train under the legendary Mendes brothers. It’s actually been quite a busy year for the team at AOJ, as they’ve taken on several top competitors over the last few months. The year started with Diego ‘Pato’ Oliveira joining the team first, but since then their female competition team has developed in a huge way. They already have a solid competition team filled with young stars that the Mendes brothers have spent years developing throughout their youth, but now they’ve been adding in more experience to their ranks too.
One of the biggest female stars in the team is undoubtedly Jessa Khan, who has risen up the coloured belt ranks under the Mendes brothers and already started making an impact in black belt competition. Just the other day though, AOJ also added multiple-time IBJJF world champion Mayssa Bastos to their team as well. With that announcement it was clear that the team were going to be a permanent fixture on the podium of major tournaments in the lighter women’s divisions for the foreseeable future.
Now with Margot Ciccarelli also joining Art of Jiu-Jitsu as well, the women’s competition team there is going to be virtually unstoppable in the lighter weightclasses. It’s unclear whether these three competitors will split up and take on different divisions or whether they’ll all simply compete where they feel most comfortable individually. It wouldn’t be surprising to see the latter happen though, as there’s several AOJ black belts who compete in the same weightclasses already and there never seems to be any issue with it.
