Diego ‘Pato’ Oliveira has just made a huge decision as he has switched teams and will now be training at Art of Jiu-Jitsu under the infamous Mendes brothers. Oliveira is one of several success stories to come from Brazil, as he originally started training as a child as part of a social project ran by a BJJ black belt near his neighbourhood. After that project closed down, Oliveira joined Nabil Jiu-Jitsu Academy for a few years before being taken under the wing of Cicero Costha for the remainder of his journey through the coloured belt ranks.
It was Costha who promoted Oliveira to black belt in 2019, and Oliveira immediately started making an impact at the highest levels of competition. 2021 was Oliveira’s most successful year by far though, as he has won both an IBJJF World Championship and an IBJJF no gi World Championship. That wasn’t all though, he won several other smaller promotions over the course of the year along with the IBJJF Pan Championship both in the gi and out of it.
Despite his fantastic success in 2021, Oliveira left Cicero Costha at the beginning of 2022 in order to make the move to Dream Art instead. Although he only came away with a silver medal at the IBJJF World Championship that year and a silver medal at the ADCC South American trials, his performances led to him receiving an invite to compete at ADCC 2022. That proved to be an excellent decision by matchmakers, as he had a fantastic weekend and came away with a bronze medal in the 66kg division. Now it seems as though it is time for Diego ‘Pato’ Oliveira to move on again, as he’s decided to represent Art of Jiu-Jitsu moving forward.
The Mendes brothers announced the news that Diego ‘Pato’ Oliveira was joining Art of Jiu-Jitsu in a post to their official Instagram account:
