Main Character Jiu-Jitsu 1 took place on July 1st, 2023 and the promotion delivered some fantastic results in their very first event. The day started off with a 3 v 3 team grappling tournament that delivered plenty of action, before moving on to a handful of superfights on the preliminary card. After that is when things really started to heat up, with a stacked women’s under 145lbs tournament taking place. That was the main attraction for the event and all sixteen of the women stepping on to the mats delivered in a huge way, although in the end it was Trinity Pun who emerged victorious. The win was very well-deserved, as Pun submitted all four of her opponents with armbars and continued her recent run of fantastic performances.
There were other superfights scheduled in between rounds of the women’s under 145lbs tournament and there was plenty of action in them too. Reese LaFever made good on his status as one of the top prospects coming out of New Wave Jiu-Jitsu by defeating Logan Marshall in EBI overtime, shortly after Chris Wojcik got a big win over one of the top 10th Planet black belts, Ben Eddy. It wasn’t a great night for 10th Planet competitors towards the end, as Eddy’s teammate Derek Rayfield also lost his main event match against Max Hanson.
