The Emerald City Invitational 6 took place on April 29th, 2023 and there were two tournaments at the event that both delivered exciting results. Both tournaments were contested at 135lbs and the men’s division featured a whopping 25 competitors compared to 8 in the women’s division. Seven men received byes in the first round of the men’s tournament and these were all given to the top-seeded competitors in the tournament. That turned out to be one of the biggest predictors of success in the second round as 6 out of the 7 men who received byes made it through to the quarter-finals.

There were a number of exciting moments throughout the opening rounds of the men’s tournament though, like Gabriel Austin Daffron hitting a crazy Kani Basami and immediately getting the heel hook finish in the dying seconds of his opening round match. Andrew DeGraff also managed to submit his first opponent just a matter of seconds before their match went to EBI overtime in another display of lightning-quick leglocking. Daffron also registered the biggest upset win of the night, as he managed to beat Estevan Martinez in his second match, winning in EBI overtime by just 3 seconds of ride-time.

In the end though it came down to Cameron Mellott and Sebastian Oyervidez in the final, and the two men engaged one of the most gruelling matches of the entire night. Mellott managed to win in EBI overtime but it really took everything he had to outwork Oyervidez and sit at the top of the results from Emerald City Invitational 6. In the women’s tournament, Lauren Sears came in on short notice to hit two armbars and book her place in the final. She had a good match with Trinity Pun in the final too, but Pun latched onto a kneebar during a scramble and manage to finish it. Pun not only won the title, but she managed to submit all three of her opponents in the tournament.
