The IBJJF San Jose Spring Open 2024 took place on May 4th and 5th, 2024 and there was some great matches taking place across several different mats at once. The gi matches took place on the first day and Matheus Luna was the man who managed to win gold in the absolute division, even though he actually competed as light as medium-heavyweight earlier in the day. He couldn’t achieve the same success in his regular weight class though, as he had to settle for a bronze medal there while his Checkmat teammate Dory Aoun ended up standing on top of that podium instead.
Aoun actually returned on the second day to compete in no gi and he earned another two gold medals by winning both the heavyweight and absolute divisions. There was someone in the women’s divisions who also walked away with three gold medals too; as Jaine Fragoso won the gi lightweight division, the no gi middleweight division and the no gi absolute division. She actually shared the podium with her ATOS teammate Amanda Bruse in her gi division too, as she took home the silver medal. Bruse also returned in the gi absolute division later on in the day, where she managed to add a bronze medal to her collection.
There were plenty of other big names hitting the mats at the IBJJF San Jose Spring Open 2024 in other divisions too, with Daniel Diniz emerging victorious in the gi lightweight division. 10th Planet veteran Alan Sanchez also stood out in the no gi medium-heavyweight division, where he took home a gold medal after winning the only match. There were plenty of high-level grapplers in the women’s divisions too, particularly at light-featherweight where Diana Teixeira and Ana Carolina Lima both competed and ended up taking home bronze and silver medals respectively.
