The IBJJF No Gi Pan Pacific Championship 2023 took place on October 28th, 2023 and the results featured some of the best grapplers on the planet. It took place shortly after the gi edition of the same tournament and there were quite a few competitors who chose to return to improve upon their medal haul under a different ruleset. Yonekura Daiki was one of the men who came back and although he had to settle for a silver medal in the gi after coming up against Thalison Soares in the final, he came back with a vengeance in no gi. He was the only light-featherweight competitor at the event but won an incredibly hard-earned gold medal in the absolute division against significantly bigger opposition.
The biggest achievement came in the women’s divisions though, even if there weren’t too many competitors in the brackets. Nikki Lloyd-Griffiths only had one match at heavyweight and one match in the absolute, but she won both of them and came away from the event with two gold medals. This shouldn’t come as much of a surprise considering she’s an ADCC Trials winner and is undoubtedly one of the best grapplers on the planet in her weightclass. She had already won a pair of gold medals in the gi on the first day too though, so she ended up with the biggest medal haul of the whole event.
