BJJ Stars 12 is now scheduled for April 27th, 2024 and the promotion has announced that the grand prix tournament at the event will be contested in the medium-heavyweight division. This continues the tradition that BJJ Stars have of putting together fantastic tournaments for each event, but there will also be several superfights taking place as well. Although there’s no news yet as to who will be invited to compete at the event, BJJ Stars regularly manages to book superb matchups and they always offer big enough prize money in their tournaments to attract some of the biggest names in the sport.
There are several top-ranked medium-heavyweight competitors who could potentially be competing in the bracket and there are plenty of lighter grapplers who would love the chance to move up in weight as well. Perhaps the most obvious choice would be Gustavo Batista, who is the reigning IBJJF World Champion in that weight class after a fantastic performance at the event in 2023. It’s not as if Batista has been able to dominate the competition outside of that run though, and there’s plenty of rematches that fans would love to see him in at BJJ Stars 12.
Jansen Gomes in particular is one of the other big names that fans would love to see in the medium-heavyweight grand prix at BJJ Stars 12, especially seeing as he holds a recent win over Batista from a superfight at their last event. Another option is Isaque Bahiense, who also holds a pretty recent win over Batista even if it was at a slightly higher weight class. He met Batista in a superfight at ADXC 1, where he won a unanimous decision after an incredibly tough battle between the two veterans.
