The IBJJF Pan Pacific Championship 2023 took place on October 27th, 2023 and some of the best competitors from around the area stepped on the mats. Some of the biggest names actually competed in the lightest divisions, with Thalison Soares winning gold at light-featherweight and Ariel Tabak standing on top of the podium at lightweight. The biggest prize was waiting in the absolute division though of course, and it was Facundo Ciancio who managed to win that bracket. He wasn’t able to have a perfect run though, as he had to settle for a bronze medal in the middleweight division.
Marcelo Gomide took the silver medal at the men’s absolute division, shortly after he occupied the same spot on the podium at super-heavyweight. Although there wasn’t a double champion in the men’s brackets, there was one competitor in the women’s divisions who dominated the opposition and enjoyed a fantastic run. It shouldn’t come as much of a surprise either really, as Nikki Lloyd-Griffiths is one of the best grapplers area. She’s an ADCC Trials winner and she left the IBJJF Pan Pacific Championship 2023 with a perfect record, winning both the medium-heavyweight and the absolute division.
