The IBJJF Oklahoma City Open 2024 took place on April 27th and 28th, 2024 and it attracted several top competitors from all around the United States. ADCC veteran Rafael Lovato Jr lead his team from the front, as he won an impressive haul of four gold medals over the course of the weekend. He won his weight class and the absolute division at Master 2 in both the gi and no gi, helping his academy to win the team titles on both days as well. He had several other top competitors putting in impressive performances in the adult black belt divisions as well though, and it truly was a huge team effort for Lovato Jiu-Jitsu to take home both trophies.
Yan Paiva was an important part of Lovato Jiu-Jitsu winning the gi team trophy, as he won a gold medal in the heavyweight division. Felipe Costa played an even bigger role, as he was given the super-heavyweight gold medal by default before going on to win the absolute division. One of the biggest stories of the IBJJF Oklahoma City Open 2024 actually came in the absolute division, as Carlos ‘Bebeto’ Oliveira won a silver medal there despite competing and winning gold at light-featherweight earlier on in the day.
There were big names in several divisions in fact, with Michael Liera Jr taking home gold in the middleweight division. Emily Ferreira put in a flawless performance in order to stand on top of the podium in both the lightweight and absolute divisions, while Vitoria Assis took bronze in the absolute after getting a default gold at featherweight. There were hardly any matches in the adult black belt no gi divisions on the second day, although Karen Terra still became the double champion by winning gold medals in the women’s absolute division and the lightweight division.
