Flow Sub Only: Squads took place on August 20th, 2022 and it was headlined by a superb matchup between two veteran competitors, Andrew Tackett and Maxim Cote. At the time the match took place, both men were brown belts in BJJ but they’d already made quite a name for themselves regardless. Tackett was probably the most well-known of the two back then, as he shot to fame on the Who’s Next? reality series when he submitted Dan Manasoiu despite a 100lbs weight difference. At the same time, Cote was regarded as one of the best prospects in Canada.
After the match took place, both men have continued making a name for themselves on the biggest stages in the sport. Tackett was promoted to black belt just a matter of months after he defeated Cote and his performance here was part of the reason he was invited to compete in the Combat Jiu-Jitsu Welterweight World Championship. More than just competing, Tackett actually managed to emerge victorious and leave the event as the new champion. Cote has also been given the opportunity to compete for one of the biggest grappling promotions, as he entered the absolute division at EBI 20. He’s also been working to develop his game under ADCC rules at events more local to him too, as he became the first under 83kg ADCC Canada Open champion.
