Fight 2 Win 172 was headlined by an exciting matchup between two physcally-imposing heavyweights as the reigning IBJJF no gi Pan-Ams champion Devhonte Johnson took on two-time ADCC world champion Yuri Simoes. It seems as though Simoes wants to stay active on the professional grappling scene despite embarking on his MMA career last November at the age of 30, and coming up short against Fan Rong over at ONE FC. When it comes to grappling however, Simoes is certainly a force to be reckoned with and proved to be far too much for Johnson to handle as he outworked him to a decision victory.
Danaher Death Squad black belt Oliver Taza played a supporting role in taking on the veteran GF Team competitor Jaime Canuto and also managed to come out on top according to the judges. Canuto showed that his leglock game has come along leaps and bounds over the years as he fended off early attacks by Taza and managed to get the better of him standing and secure side control as a result of a frantic scramble. By the end, Canuto wasn’t able to get any solid submission attempts going however and Taza had forced him to defend against several heelhook attempts throughout the course of the match, earning him the victory.
