Fight 2 Win 185 took place in Seattle and the promotion must’ve had some difficulty in putting together a main event considering that the WNO Championships took place over the same weekend. Regardless, the promotion still managed to pull it off by booking two-time ADCC champion Yuri Simoes against multiple-time IBJJF Pan-ams winner Fellipe Andrew. Neither man wanted to accept bottom position so the first few minutes of the match were spent wrestling for position until Andrew committed to a shot that put Simoes on his back for a brief moment.
Simoes scrambled back to his feet and immediately countered with his own takedown, but Andrew managed to do the same and return to standing. Andrew shot in again and tried to follow that attempt up with a trip but Simoes defended well and worked his way to a bodylock, using it bring Andrews to the ground. Again he worked his way back to standing and after some difficulty, he managed to break the bodylock grip too. Andrews attempted a footsweep but got countered with a single-leg attempt for his troubles and had to work hard to free his leg and stay upright.
At that point it seemed as though Andrews realised that he might not be able to take the match to the ground on his terms, so he sat to guard instead. As Simoes stepped in to start passing, he shot his legs up for a triangle choke that forced Simoes to defend, then quickly switch to double-unders to start passing from there instead. Andrews worked his way back to his feet and shot in for another unsuccessful takedown before settling on pulling guard once again, using a knee-shield to work his way back to full guard. Andrews opened his guard to attack but Simoes saw it coming and sat back for a toehold instead, with Andrews trying to counter with a straight ankle-lock.
Simoes transitioned to a heelhook and then switched to a straight ankle-lock as Andrews defended, putting pressure on his leg as the match reached it’s final thirty seconds. Both competitors ended up belly-down attempting to force the break with their own straight ankle-locks as the time ran out and Simoes earned the decision in a very close match that ended up earning ‘fight of the night’ honors.
