Fight 2 Win 150 marked a momentous occasion in the promotion’s history that saw Seth Daniels’ baby become an adult after a century and a half of events. They’ve gone from strength to strength over the last few years and have even been one of the few grappling events to be able to consistently put on events regardless of the current pandemic and forced gym closures. This is what has led to an increase in quality over the last few months as elite grapplers have fewer and fewer chances for competition, Fight 2 Win has attracted some amazing talent in recent events.
This last weekend was no exception as the main event saw the return of one of the most legendary grapplers in the sport, Romulo Barral, and his debut at Super-Heavyweight against Tanner Rice. Barral and Rice had a tough back-and-forth match where the difference in experience would eventually prove to be the deciding factor as Barral was awarded the Split Decision victory. This was a theme throughout the card as the majority of fights would require the judges help in deciding a winner, although this wasn’t for lack of action at all. One black belt match did provide a particularly brutal finish however as the last ADCC West Coast Trials winner John Combs locked up a tight Kimura to force Ruben Rivera to tap.
Elsewhere on the card, one of the brightest stars for America in the lead up to this year’s edition of the ADCC trials and his teammate put on action-packed displays. Both Kody Steele and Andrew Tackett were awarded “Fight of the Night” honors as they defeated Dave Garmo and Orlando Castillo respectively, both by Decision. Another member of the Brazilian Fight Factory’s elite team and Tackett’s older brother will also make a trip to the competitive mats this weekend in a 4-man tournament at BJJ Woodstock. As always, Fight 2 Win also highlighted a number of young colored belts who could have a bright future in the sport and we’ll certainly be tuning in next time to see more.
