Polaris Squads is right around the corner and outside of the titular team grappling event, there’s also a top-tier superfight between Ffion Davies and Magdalena Loska. We managed to get Davies’ thoughts on the upcoming match and how she feels about her opponent:
Ffion Davies – “I can see that she’s a good competitor and she does really well. She does no gi too, and sometimes the girls I fight only favor gi and don’t do as much no gi, whereas i like to do a mix and it seems like she likes to do the same.”
“I think stylistically we have quite similar styles, both aggressive, both like to pass the guard and things like that, rather than being the guard-player. Now, i don’t know for sure how that changes, you never know because what someone’s doing a year ago could be completely different to now. But I think it’ll be an exciting matchup, she doesn’t seem like someone who’s gonna stall or anything like that, she seems like she’d go for it.”
We also asked Davies her thoughts on gameplanning in general, something that a lot of fighters are known to do when facing a single opponent instead of a whole tournament. So far in her career, Davies has had a lot of success in both avenues and it seems that some part of it is due to the consistency in her approach:
Ffion Davies – “I don’t gameplan, i just work on what i’m gonna do and focus on myself. If someone is particularly good at something, like if they have a special move that they do a lot, i will bare that in mind but i wont spend hours and hours worrying about that or how i’m gonna avoid that because then im not implementing my game. I like to be the aggressor.”
