The IBJJF Denver Open 2024 took place on May 11th and 12th, 2024 and there was plenty of action on the mats from the adult black belt divisions. The gi divisions took place on the first day and it was Adam Wardzinski who emerged as the double champion in the men’s divisions. Wardzinski won a tough heavyweight division before returning in the absolute division, beating eat several top contenders from other weight classes and adding another gold medal to his collection. The women’s divisions produced a double champion too, as Fernanda Cristo was given a default gold medal at medium-heavyweight before winning the women’s absolute division.
Crista stood next to some tough opposition on the podium of the absolute as well, as the heavyweight gold medalist Amanda Bruse had to settle for a bronze medal there and lightweight champion Suellen Lima left with a silver medal. There were plenty of top contenders in other divisions, as Sebastian Serpa came out on top in the featherweight division and Vinicius ‘Trator’ Ferreira won the ultra-heavyweight title. Although that was the only medal that Ferreira won on the first day, he came back to compete in no gi on the second day and won both the ultra-heavyweight and absolute divisions that time around.
There was one more double champion at the IBJJF Denver Open 2024, as there was plenty of action in the women’s no gi divisions too. Top ATOS competitor Jaine Fragoso entered the tournament on the second day and she started out by winning her only match in the middleweight division. She continued her run in the absolute division, winning the gold medal there after having a rematch with Erin Johnson in the final. It was a good event all in all, with plenty of high-level grappling on display and some tough matches between exciting competitors.
