Medusa has been doing a fantastic job of developing women’s BJJ and the promotion has just announced both the date and first competitors for Medusa 4. The event is set to take place on March 25h, and as usual it has been arranged for the day before another of Eddie Bravo‘s promotions. After Medusa has finished, Bravo and his team will be immediately back to work as they set up for the welterweight Combat Jiu Jitsu Worlds on the following day. This means that Jiu-Jitsu fans will have a very busy weekend with a ton of elite grappling action available to watch.
In the past, Medusa has staged two eight-woman tournaments at each event with grapplers competing under either Combat Jiu-Jitsu or EBI rules. This time they’ve opted for a slight change of pace however, as Medusa 4 will instead feature sixteen competitors battling it out in the same tournament. It will be a Combat Jiu-Jitsu tournament in the women’s flyweight division and so far both of the women who have been announced have previous experience on the Medusa mats. In fact, both of them are reigning champions.
First to be announced was Bre Stikk, a BJJ black belt and experienced wrestler who most recently used those skills to become the UWW Grappling World Champion. Shortly before that Stikk won the Medusa Combat Jiu-Jitsu flyweight tournament at Medusa 3, submitting two out of three of her opponents. Alongside her is Fatima Kline, an Invicta FC fighter with a 2-0 professional MMA record. Kline came away with a big win at the very first Medusa event, where she won the EBI strawweight tournament by submitting all three of her opponents.
The news that the date had been set for Medusa 4 and the first two competitors for the event had been confirmed was announced in a post to the promotion’s official Instagram account:
