Medusa put on their first event and delivered fantastic results, putting together a pair of exciting tournaments featuring some elite female talent. The promotion is the latest of Eddie Bravo’s ventures, a combination of the EBI overtime and Combat Jiu Jitsu rulesets with only female competitors allowed. It’s great to see the some of the biggest names in the sport putting their money where their mouth is and putting on events for the sole purpose of highlighting female grapplers. While this might be the first promotion dedicated exclusively to female jiu-jitsu, Fight 2 Win has already put on whole female-only events too.
The eventual winners of both tournaments had fantastic runs, with Fatima Kline submitting all three of her opponents in the EBI Strawweight tournament. She caught Samantha Villareal and Vanessa Demopoulos with a toehold and an armbar respectively before facing the young and extremely talented Trinity Pun in the final, locking up a tight kneebar for the win. In the Bantamweight CJJ tournament, Brianna Ste-Marie submitted her first two opponents as well but had a much tougher time in the final against Nikki Sullivan where the pair went all the way to EBI overtime before Ste-Marie emerged the winner.
