The 2022 Lightweight edition of the Combat Jiu Jitsu Worlds has just taken place and the tournament has produced some incredible moments that will definitely be remembered for quite some time. This was actually one of the most exciting tournaments that the ruleset has ever seen, with only two out of all sixteen matches needing to go to EBI overtime to decide a winner. Of the two that did, only one of those did not end in a submission and had to be decided by escape time in overtime. Perhaps the most amazing moment of the event actually happened right at the start of the broadcast as the very first match saw Damien Anderson score the very first clean knockout in CJJ history against Adrian Madrid.
Anderson’s teammate and one of the co-founders of B-Team Jiu-Jitsu, Ethan Crelinsten, was also competing at the event and he was equally impressive in his opening match against Adrian Luna. Both Crelinsten and Anderson then submitted their quarter-final opponents in order to book a match between the two teammates in the semi-finals, one that Crelinsten won by armbar. On the other side of the bracket, Keith Krikorian was on his way to becoming the first Combat Jiu Jitsu world champion in two different weightclasses until he came up against Tenth Planet’s Nathan Orchard in the semi-finals and was submitted by a tight Dead Orchard.
That marked the second time that Orchard had used his patented submission at the event and it booked him his place in the final against Crelinsten. It was a tough match between the two men but in the end, Crelinsten emerged victorious by locking up his third rear-naked choke finish of the night. He took the Combat Jiu Jitsu Lightweight World Championship belt home to Austin, Texas and no doubt both him and Anderson will be happy with their performances when they get back to training in the morning.
