Nate Diaz is officially in the clear following his involvement in a brawl in April 2023, after the charges against him have now been dropped. Footage actually emerged of Diaz getting into a physical altercation that ended with him choking out Logan Paul lookalike Rodney Peterson in the street in New Orleans. Diaz was only in the area to support his teammate Chris Avila in a boxing match, and there were initially some concerns that it might effect his own boxing match opposite Jake Paul that was scheduled for just a few months later.
Diaz turned himself into police very soon after and was released on bond, indicating that the boxing match with Jake Paul was safe to go ahead. It was good news all round for fight fans, but obviously there was still the potential prosecution ahead for Diaz. His representative Zach Rosenfield then released a statement to MMAFighting on Monday, September 25th to announce the news that the charges against him had been dropped:
“Today, the Orleans Parish District Attorney informed us they will not be pursuing a case against Nate Diaz. Since Rodney Peterson sought out to fight Nate on Bourbon Street, we have maintained Nate’s actions were 100% in self defense. It was clear on video, clear in pictures and clear from the multiple other videos Rodney posted before and after. Nate has a right to defend himself against those who want to make a name for themselves and did so. We appreciate the Orleans Parish District Attorney taking the time to review all aspects of this case and their decision to not proceed with it.”
The news that the charges against Nate Diaz were going to be dropped was later confirmed by a spokesperson for the New Orleans District Attorney’s office:
“The 2nd degree battery charge against Mr. Nathan Diaz was refused by the Orleans Parish District Attorney’s Office. After reviewing all available evidence of the allegation, including video and testimony, there is not sufficient support to prove the alleged crime.”
It’s obviously great news for Diaz in general, but it’s also a positive impact on his combat sports career as it ensures that his time is free in order to prepare for any potential upcoming fights he might want to take.
