BJJ Stars 7 came and went, with the Brazilian promotion delivering yet another exciting event featuring some of the best grapplers on the planet battling it out in superfights. The promotion’s Heavyweight grand prix champion Felipe Pena did not make a return this time around, although his fellow finalist Gutemberg Pereira won a tough fight against Marcus Scooby halfway through the event. Alongside that, another of the grand prix’s contenders made an appearance in the main event, as Lucas ‘Hulk’ Barbosa took on UFC superstar Gilbert Burns.
Barbosa showed exactly what happens when a fighter starts to split their training time between striking and grappling though by managing to take Burns’ back during the match and sink in a rear-naked choke to get the finish. The co-main event saw Josh Hinger engage in a tough back-and-forth battle with Luis Marques that he managed to win on points, just shortly after Celsinho Venicius shut down AJ Agazarm in one of his first competitive appearances since suffering a severe knee injury during an MMA fight in the Bellator cage.
