AJ Agazarm has just revealed that he will be sidelined for the foreseeable future with what appears to be a horrific knee injury. The IBJJF World No-Gi Champion was last seen competing only a matter of days ago at Bellator 243 in a Unanimous Decision loss against Chris Lencioni, where he suffered the injury in question. Agazarm posted a clip on his official Instagram account of the precise moment in the fight that he felt his knee pop and explained that despite originally managing to fight through the injury, he knew that an MRI was needed on the knee in question.

With the results of his MRI back, Agazarm now knows that he managed to tear every ligament in his knee in the midst of his fifth professional MMA fight. He also followed up the clip with a shot of both of his legs side-by-side and the damage is readily apparent as his right knee has swollen to nearly twice the size of his left.

I’m in this leg entanglement, and Chris starts to get to his feet, so I switched up my attack. While I’m reversing to the top position, I hear the worse sound you could possibly imagine. A giant pop in my knee. I work through it, and managed to finish the fight. I even flew home cross country on it, but I just got the results from the MRI back. I tore every ligament in my knee. No excuses. When I’m all healed, you can bet I’m coming for the rematch 👊

Agazarm originally came under fire as a result of his questionable comments in the post-fight press conference where he accused the judges of being biased and even blamed his opponent for a headbutt that he landed when he had Lencioni mounted. He did walk these comments back later in a tweet where he admitted that he reacted poorly and apologized, giving his opponent full credit for the win. Regardless of what anyone thinks of AJ Agazarm, no fighter deserves any injury and least of all one as devastating as this. There’s no doubt it will be quite some time before we see him back in action again, although we wish him a speedy recovery.
