The ADCC World Championships is one of the biggest events of the professional grappling calendar and traditionally the organization only stages one superfight match every two to three years after the tournament brackets are completed. Now, an announcement has been made on the official Instagram account for ADCC where they’ve revealed that they will be staging a whole night of superfights held under the traditional ruleset that the organization uses. The event will be held in conjuction with FloGrappling and it’s likely that this attracts some of the biggest names in the sport to compete given the platform.
Given that the ADCC World Championships were originally scheduled for this year before being delayed until 2022, this will give fans an opportunity to somewhat satisfy the hole left by the biggest no gi grappling competition. They’ve already openly posed the question to fans to find out what matches they want to see and already it’s clear that the match most people are looking forward to seeing is Andre Galvao v Gordon Ryan. Seeing that the recent altercation between the pair resulted in Galvao getting slapped twice, it’s hardly surprising that fans are dying to see them meet on the mats.
However, Andre Galvao has gone public with his demands for a million dollars in order to take the match and ADCC head organizer Mo Jassim has already confirmed that this simply isn’t possible. For that reason, fans looking forward to the ADCC superfight event shouldn’t hold out hope that Galvao v Ryan is the headline match.
