Who’s Number One: Craig Jones v Ronaldo Jr delivered every ounce of action that we’ve come to expect from FloGrappling’s promotional venture. A matter of days before the event, Gordon Ryan stepped in as a late replacement for his younger brother Nicky against Roberto Jimenez and he put on another solid display against a very game opponent. Jimenez actually showed some amazing defensive work in nullifying Ryan’s attacks early on, showing some big developments since his match against Craig Jones. He escaped the first armbar attempt but was never really on the offensive other than a berimbolo attempt midway through the match. The second time that Ryan managed to work his way to an armbar, Jimenez wasn’t able to replicate his earlier success and was forced to tap.

It turns out Ryan’s predictions were correct as the main event was nowhere near as long, with Craig Jones wasting no time in sitting to guard immediately as the match began. He set up Reverse De La Riva and started to work from there, but Ronaldo Jr managed to spin free after several attempts to try and start his passing game. He was only free for a second though before Jones latched on to a Kani Basami and attempted to bring him down, switching to 50/50 as soon as he felt some resistance. Jones was patient and methodical in unlocking Ronaldo Jr’s legs but as soon as he managed to isolate one, he immediately secured the heelhook and got the tap.

Before the only two finishes of the event came in the final two matches, Nathiely De Jesus etched her name in the history books by becoming the only grappler to defeat Gabi Garcia not once, but twice! She now holds a 2-1 record against the most intimidating woman in BJJ and has started off 2021 in a fantastic way with that Unanimous Decision win. Perhaps the most interesting moment of the night came after the event had finished however, when Gordon Ryan was getting ready to do his post-match interview and was confronted by Andre Galvao backstage, where a few slaps and some heated words were exchanged.
