Only a matter of days after Fight 2 Win staged their first ever all-female event at F2W 162, Who’s Number One has made another big move for women’s BJJ by booking one of the biggest matches possible in Gabi Garcia v Nathiely De Jesus. Not only is De Jesus one of only five women to ever manage to defeat Garcia, but she’s also the most recent woman to achieve this feat after winning on advantages at the IBJJF Pan-Ams in 2019. It didn’t take long for Garcia to return the favor however as she quickly levelled the score with a decision victory at Fight 2 Win 121.
This match at Who’s Number One represents an opportunity for both women to take the lead in their budding rivalry, but it also adds a new twist with this being the first of their three meetings that will not be contested in the gi. It’s likely that this different will favor Garcia seeing as she has infinitely more experience there with four ADCC titles to her name across the last decade, and grips available in the gi can often aid the smaller competitor in controlling the larger one.
The Gabi Garcia and Nathiely De Jesus rubber match is the third to be announced for the upcoming Who’s Number One event, including a stellar main event between Craig Jones and Ronaldo Junior. The event will also feature another very exciting matchup as Nicky Ryan has moved up in weight to take on Roberto Jimenez, and no doubt there are plenty more yet to be announced.
The full Who’s Number One event will be streamed live on FloGrappling on February 26th, click here to subscribe and watch.
