As usual Who’s Number One delivered a fantastic night of results, one that was topped by an incredibly short matchup between Craig Jones and Luiz Panza. Jones only stepped in on short notice to replace his teammate Gordon Ryan after the latter announced that he was taking an indefinite hiatus from competition in order to sort out his stomach condition. He made light work of Panza regardless however as Jones immediately inverted and secured the inside heelhook to force the tap.
Mikey Musumeci also impressed in the co-main event in what was only his second no gi match in two years. The American phenom has been vocal about wanting to get work in on his leglock game now that the IBJJF has legalised heelhooks and reaping at the brown and black belt levels, and it seems like that hard work is already paying off. He also managed to finish the inside heelhook against veteran black belt competitor Lucas Pinheiro.
The event also featured a number of young grapplers were competing, including a stellar matchup between Micael Galvao and Andrew Tackett. The pair were very evenly-matched in reality and neither man was able to secure the finish, but Galvao definitely put in more than enough work to come away with an unquestionable decision victory. AOJ’s young star Jessa Khan was also featured on the card against IBJJF World champion Pati Fontes and she put on a phenomenal display before securing the victory by armbar.
