It’s been quite some time since fans have been able to see Nate Diaz grapple seeing as he hasn’t competed since losing his shot at the BMF title against Jorge Masvidal at UFC 244 well over a year ago. Before that, he hasn’t actually registered a submission victory since the upset of Conor McGregor all the way back in 2016 at UFC 196. Of course, a lack of competition doesn’t mean a lack of training and the Cesar Gracie black belt never lets his elite Jiu-Jitsu skills get sloppy.
While Diaz has been in a self-imposed hiatus from the sport in recent months, he has been hinting at making a return to the octagon and it looks as though this may well happen this year. Not only that of course, but the elder Diaz brother Nick has also been flirting with a UFC comeback and has even gone so far as to complete a test weight-cut in preparation for his next fight. Despite both Diaz brothers still not being booked for an MMA fight, there was a little excitement leading up to Submission Underground 19 when fellow BJJ black belt and UFC veteran Gilbert Burns called out Nate Diaz for a grappling match worth $400,000, although this never came to fruition.
Now, footage has been posted on the official YouTube Channel for Strength Cartel CEO “Big Boy”, which shows the phenomenally strong 300lbs+ weightlifter meeting up with Nate Diaz to learn a little about Jiu-Jitsu and engage in a friendly grapple. This wouldn’t be the first time that someone at the extreme end of the physical scale dabbled in BJJ, although this is the first time that someone has high-profile as Diaz has been on the other side.
Cool video. SC Big Boy is a massive dude. Is this the same training session where Orlando wrenched Sean Strickland’s arm? I saw Big Boy in that video also.
