Nate Diaz and Jorge Masvidal just took part in a press conference for their upcoming boxing match and, somewhat predictably, it erupted into a pretty big brawl. The two men are both veteran fighters with extensive careers in the UFC, and there’s some pretty notable history between them as well. It shouldn’t come as much of a surprise then to see that tensions are clearly running high during the build-up to their rematch, a boxing bout that was originally scheduled for June 1st, 2024 before being pushed back slightly. The fight will now take place on July 6th, 2024 instead, so both men have had even longer to prepare for it than originally planned.
The rematch has already had plenty of time to brew as well, as the two men first met at UFC 244 back in 2019. They fought for the very first iteration of the promotion’s BMF title and after three rounds of action on the feet, the doctors assessed a cut that Diaz had suffered and decided to call an end to the fight. Masvidal won the title due to doctor stoppage and it would be the last time he had his hand raised, as he lost his next four UFC fights in a row and decided to retire from professional MMA.
Diaz fared slightly better, going 1-1 including a win over Tony Ferguson before deciding not to re-sign with the UFC. That’s when Diaz decided to embark upon his boxing career, as he faced influencer Jake Paul in his professional debut. Diaz enjoyed sporadic success in the fight but ultimately lost a decision over ten rounds, so he will no doubt be just as eager to bounce back with a win as Masvidal is. Masvidal does have a little boxing experience too, although his sole fight was a decision win dating back to 2005.
