This article is part of our ADCC 2024 coverage. To get live results, play by play, and commentary, we’ll have a live updates article running all weekend.
The latest series of invites to ADCC 2024 have added a ton of experience to several different brackets, as all four of them have gone out to competitors with experience at the ADCC world championship. In fact, all four of them actually appeared at ADCC 2022 with varying degrees of success and they will undoubtedly all be eager to improve on their last performance. Each one will be a very tough opponent for whoever draws them in the opening round and it wouldn’t be surprising to see any of them make it to the podium once the dust settles on the weekend.
Rafaela Guedes was the first out of these four invites to be announced, and she was also the only woman out of them as well. Guedes will be joining the over 65kg division now that ADCC have introduced a third female bracket, as she previously competed in the over 60kg division in 2022. That was her debut at the event after she became the double champion at the IBJJF No Gi World Championship the previous year. She won her first two matches at ADCC 2022 and made it all the way to the final before losing, taking a silver medal at the event.
The second person included in the latest batch of invites to ADCC 2024 was another former medalist; Josh Hinger. He won a bronze medal in the under 88kg division at ADCC 2019 after earning the opportunity to compete by winning ADCC Trials. Hinger returned at ADCC 2022 and took out one of the top contenders in the under 88kg division, Tye Ruotolo, in the opening round before going out in the quarter-final. This will now be Hinger’s third attempt at glory on the ADCC mats and he’ll be returning to the under 88kg division alongside a whole new group of contenders.
Haisam Rida has also been confirmed for ADCC 2024 after making a huge impact in his debut back at ADCC 2022. He competed in the over 99kg division back then and took out Roberto ‘Cyborg’ Abreu with a stunning armbar in the opening round. Although Rida wasn’t able to make it past the next round, that submission win helped propel him to the top of the sport. Now it seems as though it was enough to earn Rida another opportunity to compete at the world’s most prestigious no gi grappling event, as he will be entering the over 99kg division once again.
Damon Ramos was the final man in this latest batch of invites to ADCC 2024 and he too will be joining the over 99kg division this year. Ramos also made his promotional debut at ADCC 2022 and he had one of the toughest draws of the entire over 99kg bracket when he came up against Nicky Rodriguez in the first round. Ramos then won a silver medal at ADCC Trials last year and although he fell just short of winning the invite back then, he made enough of an impact to earn a second chance and will be returning regardless.
The latest four invites to ADCC 2024 were all announced in a series of posts to the promotion’s official Instagram account:
