The UWW Grappling World Championship 2024 took place in Astana, Kazakhstan from October 7th to 12th, 2024 and a whole new class of champions were crowned in the results. The tournament holds both gi and no gi divisions and competitors from all around the world travel to compete, with some notable names representing their countries. Naturally there were some big names coming in from the US, with Alex Enriquez and Kendall Reusing winning gold medals in the under 58kg and under 90kg women’s no gi divisions respectively. The women’s no gi divisions also produced one of the biggest storylines of the entire event, as Great Britain got their first ever champion thanks to Injana Goodman winning at under 64kg.
ADCC veteran and top US competitor John Hansen also made an appearance, and he stood on the podium of two different divisions. Hansen won a bronze medal in the gi under 130kg division and a silver medal at the same weight in no gi, losing a close match with Khamzat Stambulov on points in the final. IBJJF veteran Kristof Szucs won the under 100kg division in the gi, putting on an impressive display on behalf of Hungary. The no gi under 84kg bracket was one of the most stacked of the event too, with Pawel Jaworski and Maxim Cote getting silver and bronze behind Murad Abdulatipov.
