The IBJJF New York Summer Open 2024 took place on August 3rd and 4th, 2024 and it featured several of the best grapplers from all around the US. Although the gi divisions took place on the first day and the no gi divisions on the second, many elite competitors entered divisions on both days. Unfortunately there weren’t very many female grapplers at the highest level on either day and there were no matches to be made during any weight class. Graciele Del Fava won the only female black belt match in the no gi absolute division, meaning that she left with three default gold medals and a fourth won in that bracket.

Horlando Monteiro came away with the most medals in the men’s gi black belt divisions, as he was given a default gold medal at heavyweight and won the absolute bracket. He wasn’t the only man to come away with a pair of gold medals over the course of the whole weekend though of course. Felipe Cesar won the medium-heavyweight division in both gi and no gi, beating several tough competitors in both brackets. The first day in the gi was definitely busier than the second day was, although ADCC veteran Gianni Grippo made an appearance and won the lightweight division in impressive fashion.

Matheus Lutes also entered the no gi divisions, beating Sean Yadimarco in the final of the heavyweight bracket to take home the gold medal. The gi brackets at the IBJJF New York Summer Open 2024 featured several more elite competitors, including top contender Natan Chueng. Although he was one of only two men in the middleweight division, he won his match and took home the title. The first day also saw Kalel Santos competing, and he emerged victorious in the featherweight division despite some tough opposition from bronze medalist Luan Gomes da Silva among others.
