The IBJJF Floripa Winter Open 2024 took place on August 10th and 11th, 2024 with some of the best grapplers from all around the Brazil taking part. The no gi divisions were much thinner on the ground than the gi brackets, and that was even more pronounced in the women’s divisions where there wasn’t even a single match at a higher level than purple belt. The majority of the high-level action took place on the first day in the gi divisions, where dozens of elite competitors turned up and put on some exciting matches. The team trophy on that day went to Gracie Barra but there was close competition from Alliance Jiu-Jitsu and Checkmat right behind them.
Even though they didn’t win the team trophy, Alliance won plenty of gold medals in the adult black belt divisions. Gabriel Oliveira won two of those golds for his team, as he won both the super-heavyweight and absolute divisions. Leonardo Mario also won a gold medal for Alliance at featherweight and he had a very tough final match against Matheus Onda in order to do so. There were plenty of other big names outside the top teams too, particularly in the middleweight and medium-heavyweight divisions where Facundo Ciancio and Manoel Junior won respectively.
Fratres Jiu-Jitsu had their fair share of champions too, with Rider Zuchi standing on top of the podium at heavyweight. His teammate Amanda Magda won the women’s heavyweight division too, but the biggest prize from the women’s divisions went to someone else. Freshly promoted black belt Isabely Lemos was the female double champion at the IBJJF Floripa Winter Open 2024, as she managed to win both the super-heavyweight and absolute divisions. It was a great performance by Lemos and although she was only promoted at the IBJJF World Championship just a little over two months ago, she’s clearly going to be one to watch from now on.
