The Abu Dhabi Grand Slam Tour made it’s first stop for the 2023/2024 season in Rio De Janeiro on June 11th, 2023 and as always, there was plenty of action throughout the results of the black belt divisions. It was difficult to predict the winners of this tournament and there were several surprises throughout the brackets, although there were some expected champions too. The men’s middleweight and heavyweight divisions both featured relatively predictable competitors standing on top of the podium, with Uanderson Ferreira and Yatan Bueno winning them respectively.
Leonardo Mario managed to reach the top of the podium at featherweight, putting on a great display of Jiu-Jitsu on route to collecting the gold medal. One of the most exciting brackets was actually in the women’s lightweight division, where Vitoria Vieira won gold after defeating Maria Delahaye in the final and Julia Alves took bronze. Ingridd Alves also emerged victorious in a stacked middleweight division, beating out some really tough opposition. One of the biggest surprises in the whole tournament came in the women’s divisions, as Eliana Carauni won four tough matches against top competitors to take home gold at roosterweight.
