The IBJJF Curitiba Summer Open 2024 took place across the weekend of March 2nd and 3rd, 2024 and there was plenty of action to be found as some of the best grapplers in Brazil competed in the event. The no gi divisions were pretty thin on the ground, and this was likely due to the fact that there was a far more prestigious event happening at the exact same time. This tournament actually took place at the same time as the first round of ADCC South American Trials for 2024 so naturally, all the best no gi grapplers in the country were competing there instead.
There were still a handful of elite gi competitors who chose to enter the IBJJF Curitiba Summer Open 2024 and although most of them were in different divisions, there was still some interesting matchups to see. One such match was the final of the light-featherweight division, where Jonathan Da Silva managed to beat Welerson Goncalves in order to take home the gold medal. There was another minor upset in the middleweight division as well, with Bruno Bressan falling in the semi-final and settling for a bronze medal while Yuri Rodrigues stood on top of the podium instead.
There was a top-tier match in the final of the ultra-heavyweight division too, as Marcus Ribeiro and Otavio Nalati squared off with another to determine the champion. Ribeiro won that match and took home the title, shortly before Nalati took up the second place on the podium again after losing to Elder Junior in the final of the absolute division. The women’s divisions didn’t have a ton of high-level competitors but one or two did stand out regardless. The light-featherweight winner was Jessica Dantas and Amanda Magda managed to walk away with two gold medals after winning both the heavyweight and absolute divisions.
