Tainan Dalpra has announced a unique idea coming into the IBJJF Brasileiro 2023, as he will be wearing a unique gi and selling it after the event in order to raise money for charity. This will be the first time that Dalpra has actually competed at Brasileiro (officially known as the IBJJF Brazilian National Championship) since he was promoted to black belt by the Mendes brothers back in 2020. Despite the fact that he hasn’t competed there for quite a few years, since he was a yellow belt in fact, he is still coming into the 2023 edition of Brasileiro as the favourite to win the middleweight division.
This is because Dalpra has been virtually unstoppable during his time as a black belt competitor, having lost just a single match to Mica Galvao since his promotion and remaining undefeated in IBJJF competition. He’s made the trip to Brazil as part of his attempt to win a grand slam of IBJJF major titles this year, and it’s hard to see anyone being able to stop him. In fact, he’s already halfway through his first attempt at a grand slam and so far nobody has been able to slow him down.
Dalpra started out the year very strongly by submitting every single one of his opponents to take home a gold medal in the IBJJF European Championship. After that he made a quick detour on his quest for a grand slam to compete against Isaque Bahiense at the IBJJF Grand Prix, winning an incredibly convincing victory on points. That was when the IBJJF Pan Championship came around and Dalpra took home another gold medal with two submissions in three matches.
He’s quickly established himself as one of the top gi competitors on the planet in any weightclass within just a few years of competing at the highest level and he’s already one of the most popular figures in the sport. For that reason, a unique gi worn by Tainan Dalpra during his first Brasileiro gold medal victory as part of his first IBJJF grand slam could raise quite a bit of money for charity. He’s confirmed that he’ll be donating any money raised from the sale to one or more social projects in Brazil.
