The Combat Jiu-Jitsu Lightweight World Championship 2024 is scheduled for December 15th, 2024 and the promotion has secured a fantastic lineup for the tournament. The event will take place as part of the Jiu-Jitsu Overdose week, where all of the promotions created by Eddie Bravo have been booked for consecutive days. It’s the very first time that Jiu-Jitsu Overdose has been put together and it was clear from the initial announcement that it was going to be an incredible week of high-level grappling. That only became more obvious when Bravo started to release the names of some of the elite grapplers who were competing in the various tournament brackets.
This bracket is no exception either, and the 15 men who’ve now been confirmed for the Combat Jiu-Jitsu Lightweight World Championship 2024 lineup are all fantastic grapplers. The final spot will go to the winner of a Combat Jiu-Jitsu Mexico qualifying tournament that will take place right at the beginning of Jiu-Jitsu Overdose. There are a number of CJJ veterans competing in the bracket, including two former champions. Ethan Crelinsten is actually the lightweight champion from 2022 and Keith Krikorian will be attempting to become the first man to win CJJ world titles in two different weight classes, as he won the featherweight title in 2021.
Nathan Orchard is the man that Crelinsten beat in the final last time around and he’s reached the final multiple times now, including in the very first edition of the CJJ World Championship in 2017. Orchard isn’t the only man who’s been competing under CJJ rules since the very beginning either, as his 10th Planet teammate Ben Eddy is also invited. There’s another two men returning from the last lightweight edition of the event as well, Mikey Gonzalez and semi-finalist Damien Anderson. Both of them will be eager to improve upon their finishes from last time around, and Anderson in particular will be a serious contender to take home the title.
Top prospect Matt Masch is going to be one to watch as the bracket unfolds as well, while John Chandler will also be a threat to everyone. As always a number of competitors have an MMA background; most notably Mauricio Gomez, Princeton Jackson, and Michael Cyr. Rounding out the bracket is Ezra Elliott and JJ Bowers, both of whom will be looking to make a name for themselves with some big wins here. The event will also feature a handful of superfights as well, and so far the promotion has confirmed that Jordan Wirth, Jesse Opper, Kavin Giroux, and Josh Medvinsky will all be competing.
