Subversiv 6 took place in Los Angeles and crowned a team of champions after a night full of elite-level grappling action. The event was won by three Checkmat representatives after they fell just short at the last event and lost in the final round against returning champions ATOS. Interestingly, ATOS were missing this time around and the Checkmat team made two changes, with only Elder Cruz returning to represent the global affiliation, Jansen Gomes and Thamires Monteiro joining him this time around. They shared the final with Keenan Cornelius’ team from Legion Jiu-Jitsu containing three of his top competitors, Sloan Clymer, Miha Perhavec, and Paige Ivette.

Legion haven’t fielded a team since Subversiv 3 where they went out in the first round but came back with a vengeance this time around putting on two flawless performances to get to the final. They even took the lead against Checkmat initially when Ivette submitted Monteiro with a lovely heelhook finish, but neither Clymer nor Perhavec could replicate her success. They both ended up losing tough decisions to Cruz and Gomes respectively and Legion lost 2-1 to Checkmat, who’s only other loss of the night came in the semi-final when Monteiro dropped a decision to MMA veteran Brittney Elkin.
