Roberto “Cyborg” Abreu is wasting no time in continuing his fantastic recent run as he’s already got his first fight of 2021 booked at Fight 2 Win 161, against fellow ADCC veteran Tim Spriggs. It’s strange to think that these two men have never actually met on the competitive mats considering that Spriggs has been competing at the highest levels for the last six years and both men have been present in the over 99kg category at the ADCC World Championships both in 2017 and 2019.
Cyborg is coming into the fight off the back of quite possibly the best competitive year of his career where he went undefeated across eleven matches with the best the sport has to offer in the heaviest weightclass. This phenomenal year resulted in him winning the title of “No Gi Grappler of the Year” at our 2020 BJJ awards. Spriggs on the other hand didn’t actually manage to compete at all in 2020, although he won both of his matches on the F2W mats in 2019, against Erberth Santos and Aaron “Tex” Johnson.
Johnson also makes an appearance at Fight 2 Win 161 where he will take on Arnaldo Maidana, shortly before the co-main event matchup that sees Gabriel Sousa take on Diego Pato. The event will take place on January 22nd, shortly after F2W 160 on January 16th which will feature William Tackett and Vagner Rocha. The first month of the year will then be rounded out by one more event from F2W on January 29th, which will be the first all-female event in the promotion’s history.
