Rise Invitational 11 took place on April 1st, 2023 and there were plenty of exciting results throughout a long night of matches. There were a few great moments on the preliminary card, with an incredible flying armbar finish by Ian Weingartner standing out as one of the best submission finishes of the night. The build-up had plenty of drama too, with Nick Toscano and Dylan O’Regan engaging in a fun match that looked like it was going to end in a draw when Toscano locked up an incredibly quick armbar to get the tap with just 7 seconds left on the clock.
The main card was full of talented grapplers, and it started with the opening rounds of the women’s 135lbs tournament. Peyton Letcher won the bracket and showed an impressive mastery of the EBI ruleset along the way, winning two of her three matches in overtime. Trinity Pun and Nicole Mathew both impressed by going 2-1 in the tournament and finding the finish in both of their wins, but they had to settle for third and second place respectively.
In between tournament matches, the young Andrew DeGraff put in a great performance that ended with him locking up a brutal inside heelhook against Jon Jimenez and winning the promotion’s interim 135lbs title. The final match of the night was the main event between Rene Sousa and UFC welterweight Randy Brown, a match that ended up as interesting as it promised. Brown did well to deal with Sousa’s tricky rubber guard to begin with but ended up being caught in a triangle choke and Sousa was able to attack the arm to force the tap.
